Qasr al Sarab

Since we weren't going on any big trips for winter break, we decided to splurge on a few days at a high end local resort called Qasr Al Sarab, just a few hours away from the city of Abu Dhabi. The resort is in the middle of one of the biggest uninterrupted deserts in the world. No nearby city, no big body of water, just amazing endless views of sand dunes.

Qasr Al Sarab means "Flowing Palace" in Arabic.

Views from the girls' room.

Views from our room. Our terrace was bigger than the room itself.

On the way to the pool.

Happy sharing a big chaise lounge.

The next morning we woke up when it was still dark outside to go on a desert hike and watch the sunrise...

A little later we opted for a round of archery which ended up being lots of fun.

The hotel is well designed and absolutely beautiful, down to the smallest details.

More pool time...

Late afternoon view from our terrace.

A cat came to visit us on the terrace for a while.

A hike up the big dune to watch the sunset.

A visit to the desert is not complete without saying hello to the local camel.

The next day, after a little tennis, we returned to the city of Abu Dhabi. We were spoiled rotten at Qasr Al Sarab with beautiful views, friendly staff, delicious food, and fun activities. It's going to be very hard to go on other less posh vacations after this one, but we'll survive!
